California just made it legal to tell data brokers to stop selling your phone number. If you live in California, there is now a state-run website called DROP, the delete request and opt-out platform, where you submit your information once and that request is sent to the registered data brokers on your behalf, legally requiring them to stop selling your personal data. This is the data that fuels spam calls, robocalls and those random, is this still your number texts?
This site is already live and enforcement is coming later this year. It will not stop every scam overnight, but it cuts off the source. Go check out the DROP website, submit your information and be done with it.
This is one of those things you do once and never think about again.
