Communicate Your Expectations

[Stephen Husted] (0:00 - 0:54)

Always overly communicate with your contractor on what do you expect. Just stay on top of what they're doing. Make sure you have somebody on the ground that can oversee everything and you'll probably do okay.

The minute you stop doing any of these things that I just mentioned in this video, you're going to have some issues. Those issues are going to compound into bigger issues and ways that you never knew would happen. The more a project sits empty for longer, you're at the risk of getting things stolen, cabinets getting removed, AC units getting stolen, HVAC, you name it, windows.

Dude, people will strip your house out, especially when they know it's vacant and it's under construction. You're going to run into all kinds of problems. Find the right contractor, communicate well, let them know your intentions, pay them on time.

Don't screw around with them. That's not cool and you don't want to get into that habit because just as much as you want to work with good contractors, contractors want to work with good clients.
